Attention Flathead Pet Owners

Welcome to FlatheadPets.com!

To empower Flathead county pet owners who need help finding a new home for a companion pet, the Humane Society of Northwest Montana, home of the Charlotte Edkins Animal Adoption Center, introduces “FlatheadPets.com“. The goal of www.flatheadpets.com is to help local families find homes for their beloved pets when Humane Society quarantine space or kennel space is filled.  Offered as a free online resource, the website is a place for pet owners to post owner surrender pet announcements.

The dogs and cats featured on this website are NOT for sale and do NOT reside at the Humane Society.

Why did the Humane Society create FlatheadPets.com?

At the Humane Society, staff and volunteers believe a pet is a lifelong companion and their hearts grieve with every pet owner who is faced with circumstances that require surrender of a furry friend.  Because Humane Society animal health policies require that all cats and dogs be vaccinated and sterilized, owner surrendered pets that cannot provide proof must be quarantined.  Unvaccinated pets cannot be placed into the general population.  When Humane Society quarantine space is occupied or kennel space is filled, the only option to help the pet owner has been to place the animal on a waiting list.  Unfortunately, the wait can prove too long for families in dire need.  Therefore www.flatheadpets.com was created to help more families in their search to re-home a pet.

What is needed to help more homeless Flathead pets?

As an independent, non-profit adoption center, the Humane Society relies on volunteers to help socialize animals and is funded solely by the generosity of YOU the public and can only help the community as much as the community helps the Humane Society.  Therefore when operating expenses exceed donation income, the Humane Society is forced to limit kennel capacity and make necessary budget cuts. Governed by a board of directors, the Humane Society is not an affiliate of any animal organization and does not receive contributions from any animal welfare or animal rights group.

Unlike municipal animal shelters, the Humane Society is not funded through your tax dollars, government funding or licensing fees and is not authorized to accept stray animals, investigate animal cruelty or enforce animal control ordinances in the community. Although overcrowded conditions are a common problem in municipal animal shelters throughout all local counties, the Humane Society of Northwest Montana can only retrieve animals when the operating budget permits.  The bottom line is that the Humane Society needs community support to help more homeless Flathead pets.
